David Morales

David Morales (born 21 August 1961, in Brooklyn, New York), is an internationally acclaimed Grammy winning house music DJ and producer. In addition to his production and DJ work, Morales is one of the most prolific remixers of all time, transforming many pop music songs into club-friendly dance tracks.

David Morales is considered by many to be one of the first so-called "Superstar DJs". Larry Levan was the first to recognise the potential for success in Morales, and he was soon a popular regular at The Loft, Paradise Garage and The Sound Factory - all highly influential New York City nightclubs in the late 1980s and early 1990s. His remix and production work helped him expand his DJ career, allowing him to perform at major clubs around the globe including the Ministry of Sound in London. He also became one of Ibiza's most renowned DJs, appearing at venues such as Pacha.

In addition to his nightclub sets, Morales also contributed to a large number of radio mixshows throughout the 1990s, the most important being for Hot 97's popular segment "All Night House Party". He also produced various DJ mixes for radio stations around the world, including London's KISS 100. Morales also contributed his DJ skills to a variety of compilations including Ministry of Sound's Sessions Seven, United DJs of America Volume 4 (a joint project with Def Mix partner Frankie Knuckles) and most recently with the retrospective collection Mix The Vibe: Past-Present-Future. As a DJ, Morales is currently most active in Ibiza.

Not just a DJ, Morales owns two nightclubs, both located in Canada, Stereo in Montreal and Sonic in Toronto. Morales is also resident at his own clubs, well known for his 16-hour sets at Stereo's "La Vie en Stereo", taking place on the last Saturday of each month. In addition to his music career, Morales has served as a model for Italian clothing manufacturer Iceberg Jeans.

Rave music

Rave music consists of forms of electronic music for dancing that are associated with the rave scene. Most often, it is used to describe music that depends heavily on samples and is high energy.

Rave music closely followed the acid house phenomenon. Initially "rave music" was considered a particular style that was a combination of fast breakbeat and more hardcore forms of techno. Early 1990s efforts by Nebula 2, Acen, The Prodigy (Experience), Utah Saints and The Shamen (En-Tact) were quintessential "rave music" and were being played at massive all night raves like Fantazia, Raindance, Universe and others.

By the early 2000s, the term was used more generically to mean any one of a number of different styles (or combinations thereof) that might be played at a rave party. In this sense, rave music is more associated with an event than a particular genre, per se. At a rave there can be different "arenas" or areas which play different styles of rave music. Very large raves called massives may include ten or more separate arenas, each with their own music style.

Raver styles of music continue to grow and evolve.

Goa trance parties

In the state of Goa, Goa trance parties can take place in unusual locations such as on a beach, in a desert or in the middle of the forest, although it is not uncommon for them to be held in conventional locations like clubs. Today, the need to pay the local police baksheesh means that they're generally staged around a bar, even though this may only be a temporary fixture in the forest or beach. Once the baksheesh is paid, then the party-goers are free to bring out their charas and fill their chillums without fear of getting arrested.

The parties around the New Year tend to be the most chaotic with busloads of people coming in from all places such as Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore and the world over. Travelers, beggars and sadhus from all over India pass by to join in.

Typical Goa trance music tracks

"Mahadeva" - Astral Projection
"Mystical Appearance in Goa" - Etnica
"Sinai" - Talamasca
"Gift of the Gods" - Cosmosis
"Teleport" - Man With No Name
"Spiritual Healing" - The Muses Rapt
"The Tale of Taketori" - Ubar Tmar
"The Neuromancer" - Shakta
